Development Director Position

Reports To: Board of Directors

Part Time: Up to 20 hours per week

The Development Director is the key management leader of the Miracle League of North Mankato (Miracle League). This position is primarily based out of the director’s home. The Miracle League of North Mankato does not currently have a physical office. The Development Director is responsible for fundraising, marketing, and community outreach with some time devoted to overseeing the administration and programs of the Miracle League.

The mission of The Miracle League of North Mankato is to a) provide recreational opportunities for children and adults with diverse abilities; and b) promote community support and sponsorship of Fallenstein Field.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Financial Performance and Viability: Develops resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the organization.
    • Responsible for fundraising and developing other revenues necessary to support the Miracle League’s mission.
    • Responsible for the fiscal integrity of the Miracle League, to include submission to the Board of a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.
    • Responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position.
  2. Board Governance: Works with board in order to fulfill the organization mission.
    • Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.
  3. Organization Mission and Strategy: Works with board and staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning and community outreach.
    • Responsible for strategic planning to ensure that the Miracle League can successfully fulfill its Mission into the future.
    • Responsible for the enhancement of the Miracle League’s image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professional, civic and private organizations.
  4. Organization Operations: Oversees and implements appropriate resources to ensure that the operations of the organization are appropriate.
    • Responsible, in collaboration with the coach and the Board, for recruitment, orientation, and retention of interns, staff, and volunteers.
    • Responsible for signing all notes, agreements, and other instruments made and entered into and on behalf of the organization under the direction of the Board of Directors.

Actual Job Responsibilities

  1. Report to and work closely with the Board of Directors to seek their involvement in policy decisions, fundraising and to increase the overall visibility of the organization.
  2. Engage in fundraising and develop other revenue sources.
  3. Oversee marketing and other communications efforts such as social media and website.
  4. Serve as the Miracle League’s primary spokesperson to the organization’s constituents, the media, and the general public.
  5. Establish and maintain relationships with various organizations and utilize those relationships to strategically enhance the Miracle League’s Mission.
  6. Supervise and collaborate with organization members.
  7. Strategic planning and implementation in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
  8. Planning and operation of annual budget in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
  9. Participate in Board and committee meetings.
  10. Review and approve contracts for services in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
  11. Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.

Optional Responsibility

  1. Take an active role in league activities by coaching and mentoring athletes.

    • Functions include, but are not limited to, the ability to communicate sufficiently to exchange accurate information, the ability to travel to various indoor and outdoor locations consistent with the requirements of the position, and remaining in a stationary position for extended periods. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. and push or pull up to 200 lbs. The individual needs to provide their own transportation. Reasonable mileage will be reimbursed at the current IRS rate.

Professional Qualifications

  • Active fundraising experience. Excellent donor relations skills and understanding of the funding community.
  • Ability to effectively communicate the organization’s mission to donors, volunteers and the overall community.
  • A history of successfully generating new revenue streams and improving financial results.
  • Transparent and high integrity leadership.
  • Previous success in establishing relationships with individuals and organizations of influence including funders, partner agencies and volunteers.
  • High level strategic thinking and planning. Ability to envision and convey the organization’s strategic future to the staff, board, volunteers and donors.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff.
  • Solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation.
  • Strong financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making and reporting.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong public speaking ability.
  • Strong work ethic with a high degree of energy.
